Breaking News 2: Iran FTW

Iran, censorship, what? That was totally unexpected. Excuse me, I’m choking on my sarcasm. In a country where the elections were rigged to keep the corrupt, extremist government in power, is anyone really shocked that they have shut down opposition newspapers?
Not only is the Ahmadinejad-led government infringing on their rights to free speech in writing, they have also been oppressing protests. That would be the right to assemble, for those of us unversed in the Bill of Rights. Read up on it. Supposedly, the closing of the newspapers was in preparation for the new school year. There have already been two protests at two universities already, one of which forced Ahmadinejad to cancel his planned visit. Notice I don’t call him Mr. or President because he doesn’t deserve that kind of respect.
I fail to see why I have to say how this relates back to my topic of censorship. It quite obviously does, no explanation needed. What I think is great, is that students are continuing to protest the results of the election, even though they are being repressed. Apparently they have taken to chanting “God is Great” or “Allah is great,” I’m sure is more accurate, but I don’t think that’s an effective protest in the least. At least they still care, right? No complacent Iranians over there. I just hope these are the students who don’t hate America.

Iran, censorship? Oh my God, I never even saw this coming! What ridiculous about this is how 72 people (probably more by this point) have died protesting the obviously-rigged election results. I know it’s a completely different world over there, but I just don’t understand how the government can let this go on. But whatevs. In response to the “God is great” protest chant… Um, what? I don’t understand how this is a protest at all. Really? I’m no doctor but I feel like the chant of “I love penguins!” would be equally as effective.

True dat. Mostly because in light of their recent experiences, wouldn’t “My country sucks” be a more believable statement?
